Security operatives in Kano State have apprehended the wife of a wanted Chadian terrorist, along with some of his associates, as part of ongoing efforts to curb terrorist activities in the region.
Speaking at a press conference, Kano State Commissioner of Police, Salma Garba, confirmed the arrests and revealed that the wanted terrorist, Ahmad Adam Abba, had fled Nigeria and is currently hiding in Cameroon.
Among those arrested were three of Abba’s associates, including another Chadian national, Jibrin Mohammed, 42, and a Nigerian.
“The wanted Chadian terrorist has escaped to Cameroon, but we have successfully apprehended three of his associates, including his wife, another Chadian named Jibrin Mohammed, and a Nigerian,” Garba stated.
He further disclosed that Abba was responsible for the killing of 17 people in Chad and had been planning to establish a terrorist base in Kano before security agencies intervened.
Garba assured residents that the police command had intensified efforts to dismantle criminal networks and neutralize potential threats in the state.
“You may recall that on January 24, 2025, we issued a security alert urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities. Acting on credible intelligence, we have recovered Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), and investigations are ongoing,” he added.
The commissioner also emphasized that the police are collaborating with other security and intelligence agencies to track down individuals or groups that pose a security risk. Patrols and surveillance operations have been increased, especially in identified hotspots, to prevent any terrorist activities.
Garba called for stronger cooperation between security agencies and the public, stressing that community engagement is crucial in tackling crime and preventing security threats.
