The Akwa Ibom State Police Command, led by Commissioner of Police Baba Azare, has begun strict enforcement of the mandatory Third-Party Insurance Policy, following the nationwide directive issued by the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.
The exercise, which kicked off on February 1, 2025, resulted in noticeably deserted roads across Uyo, as many motorists appeared to avoid the enforcement operations.
CP Azare, who personally oversaw the operation alongside his officers, emphasized that the enforcement is part of efforts to ensure road safety and legal compliance among vehicle owners.
Before the commencement, he met with key stakeholders, warning that vehicles without valid third-party insurance would be impounded.
Speaking to journalists after monitoring the exercise, Azare described the process as smooth and noted a high level of compliance from motorists.
“We are here to oversee the enforcement of third-party insurance as directed by the IGP. The exercise has been seamless, and many vehicle owners have complied.
“It’s a legal requirement to have all necessary documents before using Nigerian roads,” he stated.
Azare urged all motorists to secure valid third-party insurance to avoid penalties, reiterating that the enforcement will continue until full compliance is achieved.
He stressed that vehicles found without the required insurance will be impounded as part of the ongoing operation.
