President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has named Abba Abubakar Aliyu as the new Managing Director of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA).
Aliyu’s appointment, which takes effect on January 23, 2025, is for a four-year tenure.
Prior to this, he had been serving as the agency’s acting head since March 2024.
With over 20 years of experience in the energy sector and organizational development, Aliyu has contributed to various on-grid and off-grid power projects, as well as initiatives in water resources and transportation.
Before assuming this position, he led the Project Management Unit of the Nigeria Electrification Project and held key roles at Nigeria Bulk Electricity Trading PLC (NBET), including General Manager of Corporate Services, Projects, and Research.
President Tinubu expects Aliyu to leverage his expertise to enhance rural electricity access and support the government’s vision for sustainable energy development.
