Former Imo State Commissioner, Dr. Fabian Ihekweme, has been hospitalized following his release from police detention, where he spent 61 days reportedly on the orders of Governor Hope Uzodimma.
A video shared by Sahara Reporters shows Ihekweme lying weakly on a hospital bed, raising concerns about his health condition.
Ihekweme, a known critic of Governor Uzodimma, was arrested on November 27, 2024, at his residence in Abuja.
He was detained without formal charges and allegedly held in a notorious police cell, which may have contributed to his deteriorating health.
Upon his release, he issued an apology, though the circumstances surrounding it remain unclear.
His prolonged detention has drawn widespread condemnation from human rights organizations and activists, who have described it as an attack on free speech and an attempt to silence opposition voices.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian Police are yet to issue an official statement regarding the legal basis for his detention.
