Must read

The Federal Government of Nigeria has successfully reunited over 5,000 repentant Boko Haram fighters with their families after they completed a six-month rehabilitation programme under the “Operation Safe Corridor” initiative.

The National Counter Terrorism Centre confirmed that none of the rehabilitated individuals have returned to the battlefield.

Speaking at the Lake Chad Basin Governors’ Forum, Ambassador Mairo Musa Abbas, head of the Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism (PCVE) program, highlighted the role of local communities and leaders in monitoring and supporting the reintegration process.

She also credited the “Borno Model”, a state-led reintegration strategy, for its effectiveness in reuniting former fighters with society.

Ambassador Abbas encouraged regional governors to adopt similar approaches in managing former extremists to foster long-term peace and stability.
