Bode George condemns disruption of PDP’s BoT meeting, warns against ‘Agbero’ influence in party

Chief Olabode George, former Deputy National Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), has sharply condemned the disruption of the party’s 79th Board of Trustees (BoT) meeting, calling the event “despicable, inhuman, and a national disgrace.”

Speaking to journalists in Lagos on Friday, George expressed his outrage over the invasion of the party’s national secretariat in Abuja by thugs, which led to the forced abandonment of the meeting.

A committed life member of the BoT, George declared that such actions should not be tolerated and warned that the PDP must not be reduced to a party controlled by individuals with personal, selfish motives— likening the situation to an ‘Agbero’-influenced party.

He lamented that the disruption was a sign of growing disloyalty within the party and criticized the involvement of certain members in the violent act.

“It is sacrilegious to have thugs storm the premises and disrupt a significant meeting like the 79th BoT gathering,” George said. “If such actions can occur, what would stop the same from happening at National Working Committee (NWC) or National Executive Committee (NEC) meetings?”

He stressed that the PDP, which has long been a symbol of civility, respect for the rule of law, and humility, is now being undermined by individuals seeking to further their personal agendas at the expense of the party’s unity.

George called for the party leadership to address the rising divisions within the party, urging the convening of a peace meeting to resolve ongoing factional disputes.

He stated that any member unwilling to support the party’s unity should be expelled.

“As the largest political party in Africa, the PDP should not be turned into an ‘Agbero’ party by any member with unchecked ambition. We have clear rules that govern us,” he asserted.

George’s remarks followed the violent disruption on Wednesday, during which thugs scaled the walls of the party secretariat and attacked officials. Security personnel were called in to restore order, but George expressed regret over the national embarrassment caused by the incident.

“Imagine party officials being physically dragged out of the meeting by thugs. It is a desecration of our office,” he said.

“The entire nation watched as thugs, allegedly sponsored by some so-called party leaders, scaled our secretariat’s walls. This is a shameful moment for us.”

He called on the PDP leadership to take decisive action by punishing those responsible for the disruption, urging them to act swiftly to preserve the party’s integrity.

“If we are serious about being a political force, this is the moment to bring the factions together for peace talks. If the leadership is not prepared to do so, they should step aside and allow the party to move beyond this crisis,” he concluded.
