Atiku reacts to Sowore’s arrest, condemns alleged suppression of opposition

Must read

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has spoken out against the detention of Omoyele Sowore, a former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), describing it as an attempt to silence opposition voices.

Sowore was arraigned on Wednesday on a 16-count charge related to alleged cybercrime, following his detention by the police after honoring an invitation on Monday.

Reacting to the development, Atiku took to his official X (formerly Twitter) account to express his disapproval, stating that the arrest is part of a broader crackdown on dissent by the ruling party.

“When I warned that Tinubu and the APC were actively engaged in a campaign of harassment, intimidation, and suppression of the opposition, I faced severe criticism,” Atiku wrote.

He strongly condemned what he described as the unjust persecution of Sowore, calling it yet another instance of the government’s efforts to stifle political opponents.

Atiku further noted that Professor Usman Yusuf, another vocal critic of the administration, has also been targeted, warning that the trend suggests a wider agenda to silence opposition figures.

“If this pattern continues, it won’t be long before they attempt to jail all of us,” he added.
