President Bola Tinubu has expressed profound sadness over the tragic plane crash in Washington, D.C., which resulted in the loss of at least 18 lives.
The incident occurred on Wednesday night when a passenger jet with 64 people collided midair with a US Army helicopter near Ronald Reagan National Airport.
The collision caused the aircraft to plummet into the Potomac River, leaving numerous others injured.
The passenger jet, a Bombardier CRJ700 operated by PSA Airlines under American Airlines, was carrying 60 passengers and four crew members.
The military helicopter, a Sikorsky UH-60 Black Hawk, had three personnel onboard.
Following the crash, the US Federal Aviation Administration confirmed the details, and rescue operations were launched immediately.
Emergency teams worked tirelessly throughout the night to assist survivors.
On Thursday, President Tinubu extended his condolences to the victims’ families, the US government, and all those affected.
He also commended the quick response of first responders, who acted under challenging circumstances. Nigeria stands in solidarity with the United States during this difficult period.
