The Kogi State Government has announced a ban on trade unions collecting daily revenue across all 21 local government areas of the state.
Governor Usman Ododo, represented by the Commissioner for Information, Kingsley Fanwo, made the announcement on Wednesday during a stakeholders’ meeting.
He explained that the decision aims to improve revenue management and promote economic development.
The state had introduced the Infrastructure Maintenance Levy (IML) in 2017 to fund road and infrastructure maintenance, particularly for commercial vehicles.
However, reports of fund diversion by some union leaders led the government to take full control of revenue collection.
To enforce the new directive, security agencies have been instructed to ensure compliance, with warnings that any disruptions will not be tolerated.
Additionally, the State Security Adviser, Commodore Jerry Omodara (retd.), reaffirmed that the ban on commercial tricycles and motorcycles on highways remains in effect to enhance road safety and reduce accidents.
