JAMB halts law admissions in eight universities

Must read

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has put a hold on Law admissions in eight universities for the 2025/2026 academic session.

This decision follows the suspension of the Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) programme in these institutions by the Council of Legal Education (CLE), citing non-compliance with regulatory guidelines.

JAMB spokesperson Dr Fabian Benjamin revealed that the affected universities include Kwara State University (Malete, Ilorin), Bingham University (Karu, Nasarawa State), Redeemer’s University (Ede, Osun State), and Western Delta University (Oghara, Delta State).

Others on the list are Taraba State University (Jalingo), Arthur Jarvis University (Akpabuyo, Cross River State), Alex Ekwueme Federal University (Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State), and the Nigerian Police Academy (Wudil, Kano State).

The suspension at the Nigerian Police Academy will extend beyond the 2025/2026 session, also affecting the 2026/2027 academic year.

“As a result, JAMB will not process admissions for candidates applying to study Law at these institutions in the 2025/2026 session,” Benjamin stated.

A source from one of the affected universities acknowledged the breach, admitting that an admission quota violation five years ago led to the current sanction, serving as a warning to other institutions.
