The acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ambassador Iliya Damagum, has pointed to certain party leaders as the source of the ongoing crisis within the party’s National Working Committee (NWC).
In a statement during a Board of Trustees (BoT) meeting at the PDP National Secretariat in Abuja on Wednesday, January 29, Damagum voiced his frustration over some leaders who bypass his authority and directly engage with NWC members, even in his presence.
He remarked that these same individuals would not accept such behavior if the roles were reversed.
Despite the tension, Damagum attempted to downplay the situation, describing it as a typical challenge in political parties and assuring that the issue would soon be addressed.
He further urged party leaders with personal ambitions to act responsibly, cautioning them that their actions should not threaten the stability of the PDP, which he stressed remains their only viable political platform.
Damagum also reassured the BoT that preparations for the upcoming National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in February are progressing as planned.
This followed concerns from BoT Chairman, former Senate President Adolphus Wabara, who emphasized the importance of holding the NEC meeting as scheduled.
