Justice Chinyere E. Nwecheonwu of the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Kuje has postponed the arraignment of Professor Usman Yusuf, former Executive Secretary of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), to February 3, 2025.
The hearing, initially scheduled for January 30, was delayed to allow for modifications to the charges.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had taken Yusuf into custody on January 29, 2024, and presented him in court the following day to face fraud-related allegations.
However, the prosecution requested additional time to amend the charges.
During the proceedings, defence lawyer Isah Dokto Haruna, representing lead counsel O.I. Habeeb, SAN, sought bail for the defendant.
The court denied the request due to the postponement of the arraignment.
Justice Nwecheonwu subsequently adjourned the case to February 3 and ordered that Yusuf remain in EFCC custody until then.
