Atiku accuses Tinubu, APC of silencing opposition, warns of one-party rule

Former Vice President and 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has accused President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) of orchestrating a campaign of harassment and intimidation against opposition figures.

In a statement posted on his Twitter page, Atiku alleged that the ruling party is determined to dismantle political opposition in Nigeria, with the ultimate aim of establishing a one-party system.

“When I made the clarion call that Tinubu and the APC were devoting their energies to the systematic harassment, intimidation, and dismantling of the opposition, all in service of their grand design for a one-party autocracy, I became the target of vicious attacks,” he stated.

Atiku cited the recent arrest and prosecution of activist and former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore as an example of the alleged crackdown.

He also pointed to the reported targeting of Professor Usman Yusuf, a vocal critic of the administration, warning that such actions could escalate further.

“At the pace they are going, it seems they may soon find themselves contending with the incarceration of every one of us,” Atiku added.

The former vice president’s remarks come amid growing concerns over press freedom and political dissent in Nigeria.

The APC has not officially responded to his Atiku’s recent allegations.
