The All Progressives Congress (APC) has expelled Rauf Aregbesola, former Minister of Interior and ex-Governor of Osun State, over allegations of engaging in anti-party activities.
A letter from the party leadership on Wednesday confirmed his expulsion, citing violations of Article 21 of the APC constitution.
Titled “Allegations of Anti-Party Activities – Conveyance of State Exco Decision to You,” the letter stated that after thorough investigations, the State Executive Committee (SEC) reviewed the Disciplinary Committee’s report and resolved to remove Aregbesola from the party.
According to the letter, Aregbesola’s actions were deemed harmful to the party’s unity and integrity, and he has been directed to cease identifying as an APC member or acting on its behalf in any capacity.
His expulsion comes shortly after his political faction, the Omoluabi Progressives, officially announced its departure from the APC.
The group’s spokesperson, Oluwaseun Abosede, stated that stakeholders from all 332 wards in Osun State decided to exit the party, citing grievances such as unfair treatment and lack of inclusion in the party’s structure.
Aregbesola’s faction had also been accused of playing a role in the APC’s defeat in the 2022 Osun governorship election, which led to the emergence of Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
