A two-storey building under construction in the Ikota area of Lekki, Lagos, collapsed on Tuesday, trapping several workers beneath the rubble.

Emergency responders, including officials from the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and the police, have been deployed to the scene to carry out rescue operations.

So far, two victims have been rescued, while efforts are ongoing to locate and save others still trapped. The collapse reportedly occurred around 3 p.m. on Tuesday, January 28.

Reacting to the incident, the Lagos State Commandant of the NSCDC, Adedotun Keshinro, confirmed that his agency’s disaster management team is working alongside personnel from the Eti-Osa Police Division and other emergency response agencies.

“A distress call was received from concerned residents about a two-storey building under construction that collapsed around the Ikota axis of Lekki at approximately 1500 hours, trapping workers inside,” Keshinro stated.

He further assured that rescue efforts would continue until all victims are accounted for.
