Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has reaffirmed his willingness to join a coalition ahead of the 2027 elections, provided it prioritizes the welfare and progress of ordinary Nigerians.
Obi made this clarification on Tuesday through a post on his official X account, following reports suggesting he had rejected coalition efforts led by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and other opposition leaders.
He emphasized that his stance had been misrepresented in the media.
Setting the record straight, Obi stated, “I am not against coalition. In truth, I support it—not for a power grab but to position Nigeria for greatness. I will never advocate for any alliance that does not put the interests of ordinary Nigerians first.”
He stressed that governance discussions must focus on addressing critical issues such as quality healthcare, education, and poverty reduction.
According to him, past political alliances driven by the mere pursuit of power had only worsened Nigeria’s challenges, leaving citizens to suffer the consequences of poor leadership.
“Leadership must be about service, not self-interest. A New Nigeria is possible, but we must rethink our approach to power. It should not be about seizing control but about using it responsibly to transform lives and secure a better future,” Obi added.
Obi, who finished third in the 2023 presidential election, continues to advocate for reforms that put the needs of Nigerians at the center of governance.
