Temitope Iwute, a 32-year-old Nigerian woman, tragically passed away during childbirth at Croydon University Hospital in London, leaving behind her newborn son.
Iwute had recently completed her Master’s degree at York St John University and was eagerly preparing for her graduation when the unfortunate incident occurred.
The news was shared by the Community of Nigerians in the UK (NIUK) on Monday via their official X (formerly Twitter) account, where they appealed for financial assistance to support the newborn and help cover funeral expenses.
The statement read: “Dear NIUK Community, with heavy hearts, we reach out to support the family of Temitope Elizabeth Soneye Iwute, a vibrant 32-year-old who tragically passed away during childbirth, leaving behind her precious newborn son. Temitope had just completed her MSc and was excited about her future. We ask for your help to honor her memory and secure her baby’s future.”
So far, £3,785 has been raised towards the £15,000 target, with contributions from 157 donors.
Campaign organizer Mauren Elor described Temitope as a kind, loving individual full of joy as she awaited motherhood.
She wrote: “Temitope was a devoted wife, cherished daughter, beloved sister, and a friend to many. She dreamed of holding her baby, singing lullabies, and sharing her endless love. Her passing has left a deep void, and her baby will grow up without her nurturing care.”
Elor further appealed for continued support to ensure the baby has a stable future, stating, “Your donations will not only honor Temitope’s memory but also provide her child with the care and opportunities she would have wanted. Every contribution matters in giving this baby a future filled with love, stability, and hope.”
The fundraiser encouraged the community to donate and share the campaign to provide the baby with a “blanket of love” during this difficult time.
