The Katsina State chapter of the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) has appealed to Governor Dikko Radda to expedite efforts in securing the release of Yusuf Mai-Ruwa, a doctor kidnapped by bandits 14 days ago.
Mai-Ruwa was abducted alongside other health workers at Kankara General Hospital, leaving behind his wife and children in distress.
The association has urgently called for the immediate provision of robust security measures at hospitals, especially those located in vulnerable areas, to prevent further abductions.
They also demanded swift action to rescue Mai-Ruwa and other captives still held by the kidnappers.
In addition, NANNM urged the government to compensate health workers who have suffered losses due to the growing insecurity in the region.
The association also highlighted the need for better remuneration to attract more professionals to the state’s healthcare sector, which has been affected by ongoing security challenges.
As the situation continues to unfold, the association remains committed to advocating for the safety and well-being of health workers in Katsina State.
