In a passionate appeal to the leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), GRIDCo professionals have called for the appointment of a transformational leader to steer the company and contribute to the success of the Reset Agenda outlined in the NDC Manifesto.
The group emphasized that the success of the government’s broader economic restoration plan is dependent on a strong, thriving GRIDCo, and that such a leader must possess a proven track record of innovation and dedication to the energy sector.
The professionals at GRIDCo, who have extensive experience in the management of transmission assets and the National Interconnected Transmission System (NITS), are adamant that the right leader is someone who is committed to the NDC’s vision and understands the complexities of the energy sector.
According to the group, the success of the NDC government must be viewed as a shared responsibility, with the right leadership within GRIDCo being integral to this success.
They argued that appointing someone unfamiliar with the sector’s landscape and technical operations could undo years of progress and negatively impact the company’s growth.
With over twenty-five years of experience, the GRIDCo professionals pointed out that 95% of the investment in the company since 2008 was executed by engineers with in-depth knowledge of the sector, including loyal members who have consistently delivered on major projects. These professionals have established strong relationships with key development partners and international funding agencies.
The professionals emphasized that GRIDCo’s work extends beyond system operations, with senior engineers and staff providing strategic insights that have guided the company’s decisions and major investments.
They stated that appointing an outsider to head GRIDCo could harm the progress already made and undermine the company’s ability to meet its strategic goals.
In light of concerns about staff morale, which has declined since 2017 due to unfavorable policies, the group cautioned that appointing someone involved in these failed policies could further erode staff commitment.
They also warned against appointing individuals with ties to political factions outside the NDC, stating that such an appointment could destabilize the company.
The professionals reiterated their unwavering support for the NDC and its government, calling on the party leadership to allow security agencies to conduct independent checks to ensure the right leadership is chosen for GRIDCo.
They further urged that the NDC consider the voices of GRIDCo’s dedicated professionals, many of whom are party members, when making the final decision.
