A violent disruption occurred at the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday when suspected thugs stormed a Board of Trustees (BoT) meeting, causing panic among party members present.
The meeting, chaired by Acting National Chairman Umar Damagum, included prominent figures such as National Secretary Senator Samuel Anyanwu, BoT Chairman Senator Adolphus Wabara, and former Youth Leader Sunday Ude-Okoye.
Tensions flared between Anyanwu and Ude-Okoye, who are both vying for the position of PDP National Secretary.
Ude-Okoye had arrived early but was later forced to leave after Anyanwu entered with Damagum.
The dispute is rooted in a leadership conflict within the party. In 2023, the PDP’s South East zone nominated Ude-Okoye to replace Anyanwu, who had contested in the Imo State governorship election.
In December 2024, a High Court ruling removed Anyanwu from the position, declaring Ude-Okoye as the rightful National Secretary.
However, a recent Court of Appeal ruling allowed Anyanwu to remain in office until the Supreme Court rules on the matter.
Details later.
