The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Gombe has charged a man, Habu Gambo, also known as Abubakar Gambo, with fraud and intent to defraud, involving the sum of N14,907,000.
The case was presented before Justice Mashkur Salisu at the Federal High Court in Jalingo, Taraba State.
According to the charge sheet, Gambo allegedly deceived Sanusi Gado between November 2020 and February 2022 by claiming the funds were for a grain business.
The EFCC revealed that the defendant knew the claim was false, thereby violating Section 1(1)(b) of the Advanced Fee Fraud and Other Related Offences Act, 2006.
When the charge was read to him, Gambo pleaded not guilty. Prosecuting counsel SE Okemini requested a trial date, while the defence codefenceSale Abdullahi applied for his client’s bail.
The prosecution opposed the bail application, citing that the defendant had previously jumped an administrative bail granted by the EFCC.
Justice Salisu ruled for Gambo’s remand at the Jalingo Correctional Centre and set February 20, 2025, as the date for the trial to commence.
An EFCC official noted, “This case highlights our ongoing commitment to ensuring that fraudsters are brought to justice and that victims receive the protection they deserve.”
