The Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of orchestrating plans to stage another violent incident using armed thugs disguised in PDP-branded attire.
This accusation follows a previous attack at the venue of the Edo State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal by individuals wearing PDP-branded clothing, which prompted the tribunal to relocate its proceedings to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.
In a statement released on Monday, Chris Nehikhare, the Publicity Secretary of the PDP Caretaker Committee in Edo State, alleged that APC-backed thugs were preparing to launch sporadic shootings across the state to incite chaos and disorder.
Nehikhare condemned the alleged actions and called on the APC to halt what he described as repeated assaults on democracy.
He urged the party to respect the rule of law and ensure peaceful governance in Edo State.
The statement further dissociated the PDP from any acts of violence, describing the alleged plot as a calculated attempt by the APC to damage the PDP’s reputation and destabilize the state.
“We strongly condemn the violent actions of the APC and urge security agencies to intervene by apprehending those behind this scheme,” the statement read.
The PDP also called on civil society groups, the international community, and concerned citizens to join in condemning the alleged plans, emphasizing the need to safeguard democracy and maintain peace in Edo State.
