Police apprehend three over murder of Gombe ex-permanent secretary

The Kano State Police Command has detained three individuals linked to the murder of Atiku Mu’azu, a former Permanent Secretary and ex-Chairman of the Gombe State Board of Internal Revenue Service.

Mu’azu, who had retired from public service and resided in Kano State, was reportedly abducted and killed.

In a statement to The PUNCH, the command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Haruna Abdullahi, disclosed, “Three suspects have been arrested in connection with the death of the retired permanent secretary. They are currently in custody, and once investigations are finalized, they will face prosecution in court.”

Reacting to the incident, Gombe State Governor Muhammadu Yahaya expressed deep shock and sadness over the tragic loss.

In a separate development, gunmen suspected to be kidnappers stormed Garo town in the Kabo Local Government Area of Kano State in the early hours of Sunday, abducting a young woman identified as Zainab.

The attackers, numbering around ten, targeted the residence of a prominent businessman, Alhaji Auwal, in Garo Sabuwar Unguwa at about 1:20 a.m.

Eyewitnesses reported that the assailants broke into the home through a small door before kidnapping the businessman’s eldest daughter, a recent secondary school graduate.

According to the police spokesperson, law enforcement has launched a rescue operation.

“Efforts are underway to rescue the victim and apprehend the suspects,” the spokesperson confirmed.

As of now, the kidnappers have not contacted the family, and the victim’s whereabouts remain unknown.
