Northern CAN acknowledges inclusiveness in Tinubu’s administration

Must read

The northern leadership of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has commended President Bola Tinubu’s administration for its inclusiveness, despite its preference for a more balanced power-sharing arrangement between Christians and Muslims.

During CAN’s quarterly meeting on Saturday, Yakubu Pam, chairman of the northern chapter, expressed appreciation for the administration’s efforts to improve security in northern Nigeria while reiterating the group’s desire for key leadership positions, such as the vice presidency, to better reflect the nation’s religious diversity.

Pam acknowledged the Muslim-Muslim ticket but emphasized the need for future governments to include Christians in important leadership roles.

He said, “We appreciate the inclusiveness of the government so far, especially considering the Muslim-Muslim ticket. However, it is important for us to see Christians in significant positions, like the vice presidency, to represent our religious diversity.”

The association also expressed satisfaction with ongoing efforts to tackle insecurity in the region, but urged the government to declare a state of emergency to address the issue more effectively.

“The most pressing concern for us is the security of our people. We want to see a government that ensures citizens can live without fear,” Pam stated.

While CAN continues to advocate for a Christian vice president in future administrations, it emphasized that combating insecurity remains the most urgent issue facing the region.

Pam concluded, “While we would appreciate the inclusion of a Christian in the position of Vice President, what is most important right now is that insecurity is addressed. We pray for a solution to the security challenges affecting the region.”
