Must read

President Bola Tinubu will depart Abuja on Sunday for Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, to attend the Africa Heads of State Energy Summit, set for January 27-28, 2025.

A statement released by Presidential Spokesperson Bayo Onanuga on Saturday confirmed the president’s attendance.

The summit aims to push forward the “Mission 300” initiative, which seeks to provide electricity access to 300 million Africans by 2030. The event is being organized by the Tanzanian government, in partnership with the African Development Bank and the World Bank.

The statement further explained that the summit would bring together African leaders, private sector executives, development partners, and civil society groups to discuss strategies for expanding energy access across the continent.

The discussions will center around accelerating energy access in underserved regions, promoting renewable energy, improving energy efficiency, and attracting private sector investments.

On the first day of the summit, countries, including Nigeria, will present their national energy strategies, or “compacts,” which outline their plans to achieve universal energy access within five years.

On the second day, African Heads of State will endorse the Dar es Salaam Energy Declaration, which will provide a collective roadmap for achieving the goals of Mission 300.

President Tinubu is expected to deliver a speech reaffirming Nigeria’s commitment to universal energy access and to emphasize the country’s leadership in the African energy sector.

He will also highlight Nigeria’s ongoing clean energy initiatives and its strategy for integrated energy delivery across the continent.

Accompanying the president will be Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs; Adebayo Adelabu, Minister of Power; Olu Verheijen, Special Adviser to the President on Energy; and other senior government officials. The president is scheduled to return to Abuja following the summit.

This trip follows President Tinubu’s recent participation in the 2025 Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW 2025) in the United Arab Emirates.
