The Edo State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal has announced its relocation from Benin City to Abuja, starting Monday, January 27, 2025.
This information was contained in a statement issued by the tribunal’s secretary, Mu’azu Bagudu. According to the notice, proceedings will continue at the National Judicial Institute (NJI) located on Airport Road, Abuja.
“I am directed to notify all parties that the Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Benin City, Edo State, has been relocated to Abuja at the National Judicial Institute (NJI), Airport Road, Abuja, effective from Monday, 27th January 2025,” part of the statement read.
While no specific reason was provided for the relocation, it is notable that earlier sessions were disrupted by violent incidents involving political actors.
The tribunal is currently handling petitions related to the 2024 gubernatorial election, which was won by Monday Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
