A devastating petrol tanker accident on Saturday morning at Ugwu Onyama Federal Highway in Enugu State resulted in the deaths of numerous individuals, with many others sustaining injuries.
The inferno also destroyed several vehicles, leaving the road impassable.
An eyewitness, identified as Eziechina, described the tragedy to reporters, stating that the tanker, transporting premium motor spirit (PMS), overturned on the hilly road, spilling fuel that ignited a massive fire.
“All vehicles on the road at the time were engulfed in flames, burning victims beyond recognition,” he said.
“Over 10 people, including children, have died, and their bodies are being taken to the morgue. Several others have been hospitalized.”
Eziechina, a tanker driver, explained that the fire spread along the road leading to Agu-abor, blocking access to both lanes.
“I am currently stuck in Ngwo because the road is completely inaccessible,” he added.
This tragic incident comes just a week after a similar tanker explosion at Dikko Junction in Niger State killed at least 98 people and injured scores.
