Piti Ezekiel, a youth, has been killed, and five others abducted during an attack by bandits in Akansan Garmadi, Rumaya Community, Kwassam Ward of Kauru Local Government Area, Kaduna State.
Danbaba Katuka, the National Secretary of the Kauru Local Government CDAs Forum, confirmed the incident.
The abducted victims were named as Afiniki Baban Gida (46), Afiniki Timothy (41), Talatu Timothy (40), Manayi Abu (36), and Richard Dalhatu (42). Meanwhile, Mr Timothy Daure (48), a traditional titleholder in Kumana Chiefdom, survived with gunshot injuries.
According to Katuka, the attack occurred around 10:30 p.m. on Thursday when the gunmen stormed the village, firing sporadically before abducting five residents and killing Ezekiel.
This is the first attack on the community, Katuka noted, describing it as a harrowing experience for the locals.
He called on the government to intervene swiftly to prevent further displacement and economic devastation.
Kauru LGA has recently been plagued by frequent bandit attacks, forcing many residents to abandon their homes and farmlands.
Katuka lamented the government’s inadequate response and emphasized the need for intensified military action to dismantle the criminals’ hideouts.
He reassured that community members are ready to collaborate with authorities to resolve the security crisis.
However, efforts to contact DSP Mansir Hassan, the Kaduna State Police Public Relations Officer, for confirmation of the incident were unsuccessful at the time of this report.
