The bandits who recently attacked the general hospital in Kankara Local government of Kastina state have demanded a total ransom of N540 million for the release of their captives.
AFRIPOST had reported that the attack by armed bandits on the general hospital left a doctor and another individual injured by gunfire and led to the abduction of several individuals, including a senior nurse.
The incident, which occurred on Tuesday, saw Dr Murtala Sale Dandashire suffer a gunshot wound during the assault.
Among those abducted was Yusuf Muhammad Mairuwa, the Assistant Director of Nursing Services and head of the hospital’s nursing department.
According to a credible family source, the assailants are demanding N270 million for the release of the nurse.
An additional N270 million has been requested for other abducted hospital workers and employees of a nearby fertilizer factory taken during the same attack.
Reacting to the incident, Katsina State Governor Malam Dikko Umaru Radda condemned the attack and reiterated his administration’s commitment to improving the safety of healthcare workers.
In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Ibrahim Kaula Mohammed, the governor acknowledged recent strides in reducing insecurity but emphasized the need for further action.
“This unfortunate event reminds us that our mission to safeguard lives and property is far from complete.
“We are enhancing security measures and deploying additional personnel to healthcare facilities across the state to ensure medical professionals can carry out their duties without fear,” the governor stated.
A government source disclosed that efforts are underway to secure the release of the captives without harm.
