Over 500 undocumented migrants arrested, deported in US crackdown

U.S. authorities have apprehended 538 undocumented migrants and deported hundreds more as part of a large-scale operation.

This is coming just days into President Donald Trump’s second term, according to a statement released late Thursday by his press secretary.

In a post on social media platform X, Karoline Leavitt declared, “The Trump Administration has arrested 538 criminal illegal immigrants,” adding that military aircraft facilitated the deportation of “hundreds.”

She described the initiative as “the largest deportation operation in history,” emphasizing the administration’s commitment to fulfilling campaign promises.

Trump, who campaigned on stricter immigration policies, wasted no time initiating a series of executive orders aimed at revamping immigration enforcement.

These actions include declaring a “national emergency” at the southern border, deploying additional troops to the area, and pledging to remove individuals deemed “criminal aliens.”

Meanwhile, Newark Mayor Ras J. Baraka criticized Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents for conducting a local raid on Thursday.

In a statement, he accused ICE of detaining both undocumented individuals and U.S. citizens without presenting a warrant.
