President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s recent announcement of board appointments for 42 federal agencies has caused confusion due to a duplication of the chairmanship position at the Nigerian Building and Road Research Institute (NBRRI).
According to a press statement issued by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Hon. Durosimi Meseko from Kogi State and Hon. Yahuza Ado Inuwa from Nasarawa State were both appointed as chairmen of NBRRI.
The list of appointees placed Hon. Meseko as NBRRI chairman at position 21, while Hon. Inuwa was also named chairman at position 41.
This apparent oversight has raised concerns, but no official clarification or explanation has been issued by the presidency.
In the announcement, President Tinubu stated that board chairpersons are to serve in non-executive roles and must not interfere in the daily management of the agencies.
However, the conflicting appointments have overshadowed this directive and raised questions about the selection process.
The appointments, which included managing directors, directors-general, and board secretaries, were stated to take immediate effect. The presidency is yet to address the controversy surrounding the duplicate positions.
