Concerns mount over GRIDCo CEO aspirations of ING Samuel Lamptey

Must read

A prominent youth activist of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Albert Attah Opoku Vohdi, has expressed strong reservations about the potential impact of ING Samuel Lamptey’s recent ambitions in the energy sector, warning of potential risks to Ghana’s energy industry.

Mr. Opoku questioned the motivation behind Mr. Lamptey’s decision to shift from his role as a senior staff member of the Volta River Authority (VRA) to vie for the position of Chief Executive Officer at GRIDCo.

“Mr. Lamptey is a senior figure in the management team of VRA. How has he suddenly lost interest in the organization to the extent of seeking the top position at GRIDCo? Doesn’t this raise questions of conflict of interest?” he queried.

He further noted, “If there are current issues at VRA, Mr. Lamptey is part of the management team responsible for them.”

Mr. Opoku also alleged that Mr. Lamptey’s interpersonal relationship with subordinates, as documented in VRA records, was problematic and a potential reason why he may not have pursued the CEO position within the VRA itself.

Sources have indicated that a former NDC appointee may be lobbying for Mr. Lamptey’s appointment at GRIDCo. The former official is accused of sidelining NDC supporters during his tenure by favoring individuals affiliated with the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) for managerial roles, leaving loyal NDC members in less influential positions.

Mr. Opoku stressed that GRIDCo’s dedicated staff, who have committed years of service to the company, deserve leadership that prioritizes their contributions and ensures fairness in governance.
