Tinubu appoints Opeifa as MD of Nigeria Railway Corporation

Must read

President Bola Tinubu has appointed Dr. Kayode Opeifa as the new Managing Director of the Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC).

Opeifa, who previously served as Lagos State’s Commissioner for Transportation during Governor Babatunde Fashola’s administration, has been recognized for his contributions to the transportation sector.

Before this new role, Opeifa was tasked by former President Muhammadu Buhari to help resolve the longstanding Apapa gridlock and was appointed vice-chairman of the Presidential Task Team, which worked under Vice President Yemi Osinbajo’s leadership to address traffic congestion at the Lagos ports.

Opeifa takes over from Ben Iloanusi, who had been serving as acting MD following the departure of Fidet Okhiria, the former NRC MD, after completing his second term.

His appointment is seen as a well-deserved recognition of his outstanding work in improving Lagos’ transport infrastructure, which has earned the city recognition as a model for urban transportation in Africa.

Additionally, Opeifa’s tenure as Transport Secretary for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) further solidified his reputation as an effective leader capable of driving impactful changes.

With his extensive experience, particularly in the field of railway systems, Dr. Opeifa is expected to lead NRC toward enhancing the nation’s railway network, driving economic development, and improving Nigerians’ quality of life through a more efficient and connected transport system.
