Members of the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) National Working Committee (NWC) has expressed strong backing for the Appeal Court ruling that affirmed Rt. Hon Sunday Udeh-Okoye as the party’s National Secretary.
Speaking on behalf of the NWC, PDP National Treasurer, Mr. Yayari Ahmed Mohammed, stated that 14 out of 17 NWC members are united in support of Udeh-Okoye’s leadership.
He made the comments during a meeting with Governor Siminalayi Fubara at the Government House in Port Harcourt.
Mr. Yayari emphasized that there has been no higher court ruling to overturn the Appeal Court’s decision.
“There is no court decision that has invalidated the ruling of the Appeal Court. We are here to assure the governors that the majority of the NWC members support Okoye as the National Secretary and will continue to work with him. We also seek the governors’ support in accepting the Appeal Court’s judgment,” he explained.
Additionally, Mr. Yayari affirmed Governor Fubara as the leader of the PDP in Rivers State, in line with the party’s policy that sitting governors automatically assume leadership of the party in their states.
“The Governor is the leader of the PDP in Rivers State. The PDP policy dictates that sitting governors are the party’s leaders in their states. So, we are here to consult with our leader, reassure him of our full support, and urge him to continue strengthening the PDP in the state. We also call on the people of Rivers State to work with him, support him, and continue benefiting from the progress he is making for the people,” Mr. Yayari added.
