PDP crisis: Deputies demand loyalty to Damagum, warn opponents to leave

Must read

Elected deputies of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Working Committee (NWC) have told those seeking to remove the party’s Acting National Chairman, Amb. Umar Damagum, to either accept his leadership until December 2025 or leave the party.

Deputy National Youth Leader, Timothy Osadolor, made the statement during a media briefing in Abuja, where he was joined by four other deputies.

Osadolor emphasized that it was time for party leaders to set aside their egos and acknowledge their collective role in the party’s current challenges.

“Since 2013, personal ambitions have driven us to mischief and the misuse of power, resulting in broken agreements and the exploitation of ambiguities in our constitution,” Osadolor said.

He added that this internal dysfunction had been perpetuated by those in positions of power, some of whom had taken the matter to court.

Osadolor asserted that everyone within the party, whether a perpetrator, supporter, or silent onlooker, shared the blame.

He urged party members to stop playing the blame game and focus on unity and restoration.

“We must all humble ourselves, set aside pride, and support the leadership of Amb. Illya Damagum to rebuild this party,” he stated.

“If you don’t like the officers, put the party first. If you’re not willing to work with us, leave and become a proper opposition.”

He also called for an end to distractions caused by court cases and negative media portrayals of the PDP.

Osadolor affirmed that Damagum’s position as Acting National Chairman was settled until December 2025, and the issue concerning the national secretary would be resolved through the courts.

Osadolor pointed out that the party was grappling not only with the challenges posed by the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led federal government but also with internal disillusionment.

He listed distrust, insincerity, failure to enforce agreements, and self-serving interests as key factors undermining the party.

He also criticized some party leaders, accusing them of secretly sowing discord within the PDP for personal gain, which he argued was detrimental to the party’s interests.
