Military airstrikes neutralize bandits, destroy logistics base in Niger

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF), under the air component of Operation Fansan Yamma, has reported the elimination of numerous bandits and the destruction of their logistics hub.

The operation was during a series of precision airstrikes in Alawa Forest, located in Shiroro Local Government Area (LGA) of Niger State.

According to a statement released on Wednesday, the operation was conducted on Tuesday after credible intelligence and aerial surveillance revealed the presence of armed terrorists in the forest.

These individuals were reportedly responsible for various violent acts, including two deadly improvised explosive device (IED) attacks on December 19, 2024, in Bassa, Shiroro LGA, which resulted in civilian casualties.

In response, NAF launched a three-day aerial campaign, code-named “Konan Daji,” aimed at weakening the terrorists and making the forest unsuitable for their activities.

Fighter jets were deployed to carry out targeted strikes on identified locations within the forest.

The airstrikes were highly effective, with the jets neutralizing numerous armed fighters and destroying their logistics base, evidenced by multiple secondary explosions.

NAF stated that the operation marks a significant victory against terrorism and pledged to sustain its efforts to rid Alawa Forest and its environs of criminal elements, ensuring lasting peace and security for communities in the region.
