Gunmen kill Imo lawyer as police commences investigation

On Wednesday evening, gunmen killed Chinedu Nwowu, a lawyer from Imo State, in Mgbidi, Oru West Local Government Area.

Eyewitnesses report that Nwowu was driving along the Mgbidi highway at around 7:00 p.m. when the attackers blocked his car.

One witness recalled, “We saw a car overtake his vehicle recklessly, and before we knew it, armed men emerged, stopped his car, dragged him out, shot him multiple times, and sped off. We were too shocked to react.”

The entire attack lasted under five minutes, preventing any opportunity for locals to contact authorities in time. Nwowu was rushed to a nearby hospital but was declared dead upon arrival.

Imo State Police Command spokesperson Henry Okoye confirmed the incident on Thursday and assured the public that an investigation was underway to bring those responsible to justice.
