Appeal Court affirms death sentence for Adedoyin in OAU student murder case

The Court of Appeal in Akure, Ondo State, has confirmed the death sentence imposed on Dr. Ramon Adedoyin, a well-known hotel proprietor, for his involvement in the murder of Timothy Adegoke, a former Master’s student at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife.

Delivering its judgment on Thursday, the appellate court upheld the ruling of the Osun State High Court, which had found Adedoyin guilty of the crime and sentenced him to death.

According to the judgment, “The decision of the Osun State High Court is upheld. The appeal by Adedoyin is dismissed in part. The conviction and death sentence were appropriately delivered.”

However, the Court of Appeal overturned the High Court’s orders for the forfeiture of Hilton Honours Hotel, the location where the incident occurred. It also set aside the directive for Adedoyin and others to fund scholarships for the children of the late Timothy Adegoke.

Adegoke’s death in November 2021 drew significant public attention after his lifeless body was found at the Hilton Honours Hotel, where he had lodged.
