In a dangerous turn of events, some youths in Jalingo, the capital of Taraba State, were seen scooping fuel from a faulty tanker on Wednesday, disregarding the potential danger of such an act.
This comes just days after a tragic tanker explosion in Niger State claimed the lives of nearly 100 people.
Eyewitnesses reported that the incident occurred at Mile 6, where the tanker had crashed and spilled some of its contents.
Security personnel from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and the Nigeria Police Force arrived at the scene and managed to disperse the crowd of youths who had gathered to collect the leaking fuel.
The incident caused panic in the area, as petty traders and shop owners quickly locked up their shops and left the vicinity, fearing a possible explosion.
Speaking on the incident, the spokesperson for the NSCDC in Taraba State, Illia Samuel, confirmed that the tanker driver sustained injuries during the crash.
He also reiterated the dangers of scooping fuel from a compromised tanker, urging residents to prioritize their safety and avoid such perilous actions.
