A faction of the prominent Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has raised concerns over a political conspiracy aimed at derailing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election campaign for 2027.
Ohanaeze noted that influential political figures, including two former presidents, past military leaders, opposition elites, and factions within the ruling APC, are at the forefront of the plot.
Alarmingly, the group stated that some international powers are tacitly supporting these efforts to destabilize the current administration.
The faction also issued a stern warning to President Tinubu, claiming that certain governors, including Rivers State Governor Siminialayi Fubara and four other Southeastern governors, are conspiring to thwart his re-election bid.
Deputy president of the group, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, revealed that these governors are attempting to undermine the leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo in their efforts to politically weaken Barr Nyesom Wike, the FCT Minister, within his home state of Rivers.
Isiguzoro emphasized that these governors are also seeking to exploit economic hardships and insecurity to fuel a revolutionary narrative, rallying disillusioned Nigerians, especially those in the Igbo community, to join their cause as the 2025 and 2026 elections approach.
In its statement issued on Tuesday, Isiguzoro highlighted what he described as a coordinated effort across Nigeria’s political, ethnic, and religious sectors, fueled by discontent over the nation’s economic struggles, growing insecurity, and dissatisfaction with the federal government’s response.
The statement further suggested that these governors are attempting to undermine President Tinubu by using the Ohanaeze Ndigbo platform to gain support from Northern political factions, ultimately positioning themselves as the agents of change.
The faction also referenced Governor Hope Uzodinma’s controversial actions during the 2023 APC primaries, including backing former Senate President Ahmad Lawan, which they claimed was part of a larger effort to weaken Tinubu’s political standing.
In conclusion, the faction warned that if Tinubu does not act decisively against the mounting pressures of economic hardship and insecurity, these political forces will exploit the situation to rally the masses in an attempt to topple his administration ahead of the 2027 elections.
The group emphasized that both President Tinubu and Wike are central targets in the alleged plot to hijack the Ohanaeze Ndigbo platform for political gains.
