EFCC officer vanishes with $30,000 other confiscated valuables

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is facing fresh allegations of internal misconduct as a staff member from its Kaduna Zonal Office has reportedly absconded with over $30,000 and other seized items.

AFRIPOST reports that this development follows the recent detention of 10 EFCC officers in Lagos over missing operational assets, including gold bars valued at more than ₦1 billion, $180,000, and £140,000.

In the Kaduna case, a staffer identified only as Polycarp allegedly disappeared after failing to account for $30,000 in exhibits.

Insiders revealed that the zonal director, Benedict Ubi, had recently ordered an audit of the exhibit room in light of the Lagos incident.

Sources disclosed that Polycarp requested to leave temporarily after the audit began but subsequently became unreachable, with all his phone lines switched off.

“This is just the initial discovery regarding foreign currency,” one source stated, adding that a more extensive audit could uncover additional discrepancies.

The EFCC has reportedly initiated a manhunt to locate the missing officer and recover the stolen assets.
