Benue Gov locks out civil servants for coming late

Must read

Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, took decisive action on Wednesday by locking out civil servants at the state secretariat during an impromptu visit.

The governor arrived around 10:35 am to inspect ongoing renovations, including the installation of new lights, only to find a minimal presence of workers at their posts. Security personnel immediately locked the gates, barring dozens of workers from entering the premises.

As Governor Alia toured the various ministries, he expressed his disappointment upon finding that several senior officials and commissioners were not present at work.

Addressing a gathering of workers outside the secretariat, he expressed concern over their lack of dedication and the negative impact their actions could have on their families.

“You are creating a vicious cycle that harms your families,” he said. “Cheating your way through work will not lead to success. My work is not for personal gain, but for the benefit of those who don’t even know who I am.”

The governor further warned the workers, stating that he had the authority to dismiss any civil servant if necessary. “I can easily get your names and fire you if needed,” he said.

“I speak to you not only as a governor but as a priest, advising you on the consequences of your actions.”

Governor Alia also emphasized the importance of responsibility, stating, “It’s not just about me—each of you is part of the government. Just like in a family, there are rules and someone must enforce them. I want you to understand that your actions have consequences, not only for you but for those who depend on you.”

He concluded by urging the workers to reflect on their roles and responsibilities, for the sake of their families and the people they serve.
