James Akinwande, a Nigerian based in the United Kingdom, has replaced a wristwatch and pair of shoes allegedly stolen from the brother of Kemi Badenoch, leader of the UK’s Conservative Party.
Badenoch had recently accused some officers of the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) of stealing the items but did not specify when the incident occurred.
She criticized the misuse of firearms in Nigeria, stating that “giving people a gun is just a license to intimidate.”
Badenoch’s remarks about Nigeria’s leadership and institutions have sparked mixed reactions, with some applauding her stance while others expressed disapproval.
In response to her allegations, Akinwande posted a video documenting his purchase of a wristwatch and shoes from a UK store.
He delivered the items to the UK Conservative Party headquarters, intending to present them to Badenoch.
At the gate, Akinwande handed over the items to security personnel with a note that read: “On behalf of every proud Nigerian who felt genuinely hurt by those unfounded disparaging remarks about the Nigerian Police. We ‘buy back’ the stolen shoes and watch! (I hope it fits, tho..).”
The video has since gone viral on social media.
Akinwande, who identified as a legal representative, golfer, and international manager to Nigerian music-comedian Kenny Blaq, shared the video on his Instagram page, further amplifying the conversation surrounding Badenoch’s comments.
