FCT minister Wike responds to Presidential praise, criticizes media conduct

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has expressed his satisfaction following commendation from President Bola Tinubu during the president’s recent media interaction.

Speaking with journalists on Sunday, January 19, Wike highlighted the importance of recognition from one’s superior, noting that such acknowledgement naturally elicits happiness.

“Think about it—when your boss praises your work, how would you feel? For me, it brings a sense of fulfilment and satisfaction,” he stated.

However, Wike criticized a journalist from Arise Television who participated in the presidential media chat, accusing the individual of posing an inappropriate question.

He remarked, “With all due respect to Arise, the question was asked in a mischievous manner.

“It’s unfortunate that in a presidential media chat, a journalist would single out a minister, accuse him of land grabbing, and label him a political liability.”

Wike argued that the journalist’s approach was a disservice to the profession, stating, “This is what undermines journalism.

“After the president responded, the journalist was visibly embarrassed and had no further questions.”

The minister concluded by urging Nigerians, especially those in leadership positions, to prioritize the nation’s interests above personal agendas.

“Everyone has a role to play in ensuring that personal interests do not overshadow national priorities,” he emphasized.
