APC breaks silence on Obasa’s impeachment by Lagos lawmakers

The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has addressed the recent impeachment of the former Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Hon. Mudashiru Obasa.

In a statement on Tuesday, the party’s spokesperson, Hon. Seye Oladejo, clarified that the impeachment was solely a decision of the State House of Assembly, with no interference from the party or its leadership.

Obasa was removed from office on Monday and replaced by Hon. Mojisola Lasbat Meranda, who was elected as the new Speaker.

Oladejo emphasized that the legislative arm operates independently, stating, “The impeachment is not a party matter; it is entirely the business of the House of Assembly. As an independent body, they have the autonomy to make their decisions, and we respect that. This reflects the separation of powers among the three arms of government.”

He further noted that politics is often driven by shifting interests and alliances, adding, “Politics is about intrigues and interests. The only constant in politics is the pursuit of one’s interest at any given time. This principle applies universally, not just in Nigeria.”

Oladejo also reaffirmed the APC’s dedication to delivering effective governance and fulfilling its campaign promises to the people of Lagos State, irrespective of internal political developments.
