Ondo West LG Chairmanship election canceled due to logo error

Must read

The Ondo State Independent Electoral Commission (ODIEC) has annulled the chairmanship election in Ondo West Local Government Area due to the use of an outdated logo for the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) on the ballot papers.

Dr. Joseph Aremo, Chairman of the Commission, announced the cancellation at a press conference on Saturday in Akure, revealing that the election would be rescheduled for Sunday.

Aremo explained that the commission was alerted to the logo issue, prompting the decision to re-conduct the chairmanship election between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Sunday.

“Our goal is to ensure a free, fair, and transparent election process,” Aremo stated, explaining that the incorrect logo—an old version of the NNPP logo—was identified on the ballot. He emphasized that the commission had resolved to provide a fair platform for all parties involved, leading to the cancellation of the initial election.

“We expected the party to notify us about the logo error earlier, but nonetheless, the commission has decided to void the original chairmanship election in Ondo West,” he said.

For the rescheduled election on Sunday, the correct logo of the NNPP will appear on the ballot. Aremo assured that all preparations would be completed before 11:00 a.m.

Aside from this issue, he confirmed that no other complaints had been received from other local governments regarding the elections.
