Obasa remains in U.S. as supporters dismiss corruption allegations

Must read

Former Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, has remained in the United States amid the controversy surrounding his recent impeachment.

Obasa, who was impeached last Monday over allegations of fraud and misconduct, continues to receive strong backing from loyalists in his Agege Constituency 1. His supporters have rejected the allegations, labeling them politically motivated.

Prominent community leaders and stakeholders gathered on Friday at his constituency office in Agege to address the matter.

They expressed their solidarity with Obasa and strategized on countering what they described as a smear campaign.

Chairman of the Community Development Committee for Agege Local Government Area, Mr. Omodele Morufu, dismissed the allegations, stating, “These claims are baseless. If Obasa decides to run for governorship and has God’s favor, it will be a source of pride for Agege. Those spreading these rumors are not God.”

Morufu further explained, “We are here to provide accurate information and to counter false narratives. This is about ensuring that our people know the truth.”

Chief Ganiyu Egunjobi, Executive Chairman of Agege Local Government, also spoke in support of Obasa, describing him as a dedicated leader.

“Regardless of how the Assembly treated him, Obasa has made significant contributions to our community,” he said.

Similarly, the Alaige of Orile Agege Kingdom, Oba Egbeyemi Lateef Oladimeji, remarked, “This is politics at play. Obasa has been a strong supporter of the community and has shown exceptional goodwill toward us.”

Obasa’s impeachment has fueled speculation, with some analysts suggesting that the move may be linked to his rumored ambition to contest for the governorship in 2027 rather than the corruption allegations.
