New Alaafin of Oyo to be crowned April 4

 

Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade will officially be crowned the 46th Alaafin of Oyo on Friday, April 4, 2025

According to reports, the highly anticipated event will solidify Oba Owoade’s role as the custodian of Yoruba cultural heritage.

Sources who revealed to The Sun noted that extensive preparations are underway, with committees comprising representatives from the Alaafin’s palace and the Oyo State Government working to ensure a grand and seamless ceremony.

Before his coronation, Oba Owoade will undergo a series of traditional seclusion rites, known as Alaafin Rituals, deeply rooted in Yoruba culture and spirituality. These rites are designed to prepare the monarch physically and spiritually for his sacred role.

AFRIPOST had reported that Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State had approved Oba Owoade’s nomination on Friday, January 10, 2025. In a symbolic act, the governor presented him with the staff and instruments of office on Monday, January 13, 2025, officially marking the beginning of his reign.
