Police confirm killing of EFCC officer by Yahoo boys in Anambra

The Nigeria Police have confirmed the death of an Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) officer and the critical injury of another following an attack by suspected internet fraudsters in Anambra State.

Anambra State Police Command Spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the attack and disclosed that investigations are ongoing.

“The suspect is in custody, and the firearm has been recovered. Further details will be provided,” he said.

AFRIPOST had reported that the incident occurred on Friday during an EFCC operation targeting cybercriminals, commonly referred to as Yahoo Boys.

The team, deployed from the agency’s zonal headquarters in Enugu, came under heavy gunfire, forcing them to retreat.

The deceased officer, an assistant superintendent, had recently passed a promotional exam before the tragic attack.

The injured officer is currently receiving treatment in critical condition at an undisclosed hospital.
