NiMet forecasts sunshine, hazy conditions from Saturday to Monday

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecasted sunshine and hazy conditions across the country from Saturday to Monday.

In its weather outlook released on Friday, NiMet predicted clear skies with hazy conditions over the northern regions for the entire forecast period, including sunny weather on Sunday.

The agency also anticipates hazy skies with patches of clouds over the North-Central regions throughout the forecast period.

In the southern region, NiMet expects a hazy atmosphere with cloudy patches in the morning over inland cities. It also forecasts localized showers and thunderstorms in parts of coastal cities, particularly over Lagos, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom.

Localized thunderstorms are expected to occur later in the day over parts of Imo, Abia, Ebonyi, Delta, Rivers, Lagos, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, and Bayelsa.

On Sunday, NiMet predicts slight dust haze in the northern states, with hazy skies and patches of clouds over the North-Central region throughout the day.

In the southern region, a cloudy atmosphere with intervals of sunshine is expected over inland cities during the morning.

Localized thunderstorms are anticipated in the afternoon and evening in parts of Imo, Ebonyi, Anambra, and Abia. Showers and thunderstorms are also expected over parts of Lagos, Delta, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River in the morning.

For Monday, NiMet forecasts moderate dust haze over the northern region. It predicts a sunny atmosphere with patches of clouds over North-Central cities in the morning, with localized thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening over parts of Niger, Benue, the Federal Capital Territory, Kwara, and Kogi.

The southern region is expected to experience a cloudy atmosphere with intervals of sunshine during the morning, followed by localized thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening in parts of Oyo, Ondo, Ogun, Ekiti, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Lagos, and Bayelsa.

NiMet has urged the public to take necessary precautions due to dust particles in the atmosphere. It advised individuals with respiratory issues, including those with asthma, to be cautious of the weather conditions.

The agency also warned of strong winds potentially preceding the thunderstorms and urged the public to adhere to safety advisories. Airline operators are advised to obtain specific weather reports from NiMet for effective flight planning.
